Hokkaido Trip: Day 4 @ Hakodate
Day 4: 1st July 2017 (Saturday)
Finally we have come to the chapter of visiting my favourite city in Hokkaido, Hakodate! I realised there are quite a few tourists who decide to skip Hakodate in their itinerary. It could be that those people have the impression that Hakodate as is just another big city with not many famous scenic tourist spots to visit (and it's faraway from Sapporo!). However I must say I like Hakodate a lot, probably because it is a harbour city nearby the sea (so much sea breeze!) with impressive seafood markets (Sashimi!), vintage European style building (so instagram worthy) and public onsens (definitely a once in a lifetime experience)!
Once we arrived at Hakodate, we stopped at Lucky Pierrot for our quick lunch before venturing into the big city. Unlike Sapporo, Hakodate is bigger and more densely populated city (which I felt) when I toured around the city by driving. Everywhere I go, I see blocks of buildings and there are tons of traffic lights and crossroads.
We both ordered the signature burger and it turned out to be something that I highly expected! Mouth-watering delicious and definitely keeps you wanting for more!
Right after Lucky Pierrot, we drove to the must-try Snaffle's which offers apparently really famous soft cheese cake.
The pastry shop was pretty quiet when we arrived. Ordered and paid for our cakes downstairs and we sat at a table upstairs waiting to be served.
This cake still makes me salivate when I write this post. A confirm must-try!
Their famous cheesecake. Somehow I prefer the cake above more than this.
We took a nice, tea break by just sitting and chilling at the shop before embarking on our next journey.
We went to Goryokaku Park to visit the historical Goryokaku Fort and Tower. Not a place you would constantly 'wow' at but it is also nice to just see the locals do their daily jogging and activities here.

Lastly, we arrived at our guesthouse which I highly recommend because of the beautiful vintage interior (not to mention Japanese homes are always ridiculously organized and tidy) and friendly hosts. The name of the guesthouse is Hakodateyama Guesthouse and the price is reasonable as well.
You will get this awesome seaside view by staying at the guesthouse. We spent two nights here and I dreaded to leave because the stay was just too enjoyable.
After dropping out luggage, we went straight to Mount Hakodate for the world famous night view (second to Victoria Peak night view at Hong Kong I guess).

Bought the round trip tickets for the cable car. So the picture on the ticket is the view that you are supposed to see when you get up there.
Had the most fabulous western/fusion dinner at Mount Hakodate tower itself. We were hoping to see the amazing night view during our dinner but the fog was so thick that we could see nothing other than a layer of white blurry cotton candy.
Went home with a tinge of disappointment but look at the main area of our guesthouse.
Awesome Possum. At night I just sat at the table reading my fiction novel and sometimes would just gaze into the blackness of the night view. Such a relaxing thing to do during a trip.
Till next time.
Till next time.
